About me
Most database problems aren't really database problems. They're problems nobody had time to look at closely until things started breaking.
Looking closely is the part I love. For 20+ years I've dug into why systems get slow, cost too much, or can't handle more users and turned that into something a team can fix.
I do this in two places: through DatabaseSpa.net, my own practice, where I help businesses make their MySQL, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL databases run faster; and at PlanetScale, where I work with Vitess to help teams run MySQL far past what a normal setup can handle.
I automate the boring parts, and the new AI tools have made it fun again.
